Oil Painting Masterclass with Rosso Crimson – June

by becqua on August 12, 2023, in the Fine Art category

Continuing the online mentorship with Rosso Crimson. This month we worked on paler skin tones and the overall palette, the colours we’ve used for skintones throughout the course are:

  • Titanium white
  • A pre-mixed blue-grey
  • Yellow ochre
  • Naples yellow
  • Cadmium red
  • Alizarin crimson
  • Indian red
  • Ivory black

Time was limited this month due to other commitments so I did a quick sketch, oil on paper, just to get some more practice in mixing and painting faces.  As you can see I didn’t completely like two of them. The expression on the middle one was quite intriguing so she survived. As an underpainting this was quite successful….and with more time I would work on the lighter tones.

Oil Painting Masterclass with Rosso Crimson – May

by becqua on July 30, 2023, in the Fine Art category

Continuing the year long class, in May I worked on the florals and adding the background.  I went for a grey/blue to offset the orange/gold of the underpainting. This painting is now finished and I’ll announce when the next collection is available for sale. So if you’re looking for original artworks for a minimalist living space then make sure you’re on the email list. Sign up here.

Oil Painting Masterclass with Rosso Crimson – April

by becqua on May 8, 2023, in the Fine Art category

April’s class saw Rosso develop the abstract flowers in her portrait plus the addition of background colour. I’ve started some florals, and will gradually add to these. Not brave enough for the background yet so this is very much a work in progress.

I’m focussing more on portraits this year and signed up to an oil painting class by Rosso Crimson. Here’s the description of the class from Rosso’s website:

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM WITH TERRACOTTA

“Mentorship program taught live from my studio in London. Learn how to develop a full figure painting which departs creatively from the initial photographic reference. The mentorship programs includes over 3 hour video content where you’ll learn a step-by-step guide to develop a full figure painting as well as 12 live three hour workshops.

Starting from January 2023″

I’m unable to attend the live zooms but am watching the replays and getting feedback via the classroom. Oil painting created so far based on a photo reference supplied by Rosso, working on initial blocking in, and skin tones:

Juliette Belmonte Portrait Class

Virtual Portrait Workshop October 30 – November 20 2022, and here’s how her website describes the class:

A mixed media portrait workshop with Juliette Belmonte.

In this four week workshop, students will learn to incorporate found objects, fabrics, sentimental objects and papers to create multi layered mixed media portraits. We will be working with acrylic paints and water based mediums. There will be some feedback during class hours and I will hold “office hours” on Zoom for two additional hours throughout the week for personal feedback and questions.

It was the first time I’ve done an art class via zoom, and meeting Juliette and the other students was great. Seeing how everyone’s work progressed over 4 weeks with Juliette’s suggestions was greatly beneficial. She shares her process on how to tackle the dreaded blank canvas and gave detailed feedback on colour-mixing and how she approaches the use of mixed media. This class gave me the confidence to tackle portraits and to keep the parts of a painting I like and happily keep adding layers to crate the overall result.

I’ve been working less digitally and more with collage and mixed media recently so I decided to take a course by Este McLeod  at EsteMcLead.com.

“If you’d like to develop your sense of colour, be bolder with applied paint techniques and create in a more expressive and uninhibited way then join me on Colour Collage I. It’s packed with content guaranteed to inspire and enthuse” – Este McLeod

My main aim is to try to work with colour and different techniques, try new things and loosen up in my approach to art. Working through the colour modules using acrylic inks and deli paper to create collage pieces.

– Module 1 – Red

– Module 2 – Blue

Art2Life Workshops

by becqua on February 15, 2022, in the News category

I’m in the process of trying to make art again as it’s been a little sporadic recently. Hoping to reignite my work by watching the Nicholas Wilton Art2Life workshops where he discusses bringing design and value to your artwork. I’ve watched the first video and it makes you think a little more about design, contrast, size of elements, linework etc.

Plantsgiving 2020 – A Drawing a Day

by becqua on November 14, 2020, in the News category

The challenge was set on Instagram by @sunnyspotstudio & @mollyferguso1nart to create a drawing a day to celebrate #plantsgiving2020. This is the second year and was originally set up to push themselves out of their comfort zones to produce a quick piece per day. As I’m always drawing botanicals of some form I decide to join and I’m nearly half way through. I’ll post some of my art at the end of the month.

Post- project update: I’m pleased to show a few of the daily illustrations I did. It depended how much time I had with a quick loose sketch with The Vase, a bold floral pattern with Blooms & Gold, to the magical world of The Terrarium. I wholeheartedly recommend a daily challenge like this, as I created more in a few weeks than I had over the preceding months…..a great bit of creative inspiration.
